Velvet Heart Top

Inspired by a Thierry Mugler bustier from the 90s. My version had underwired bust cups, side lacing, and ribbon shoulder straps for vertical tension against a low back. I used second hand velour materials, and stabilised the stretch with fusible interfacing. I used an old bra for the bust pattern, for which there is a steep learning curve and touches on lingerie territory which I intend to delve into deeper.

Initial concept design and sketch. I always plan how I will cut the pattern onto the fabric to ensure I source the correct quantity and use in the most economical way.
