Knit Fabrics
Knit fabrics have been a learning curve to attempt to master on a regular home sewing machine. The correct needle, stitch choice, and stabiliser have been imperative to a professional-looking finish.
I have experimented with double layers, twin needles, and elastic MCT thread.
Here I used a red cotton lycra base, and black power mesh overlay to add dimension to a cowl neck evening gown. I created separate sleeves and recently improved the design to replace the straps with an improved spaghetti style.
This is a result of using a cotton lycra blend to produce a 70s-inspired ultra crop top with handkerchief sleeves. I have designed this to require as little sewing as possible, with the sleeves cut as one piece with the bodice. It has straight stitches on vertical seams, and a round neckline finish.
